IN THE FRINGE

The Show

IN THE FRINGE is proud to present Techies, a sharp, funny, and self-aware musical comedy that celebrates the people who make theatre happen—often without being seen.

Set inside a high school theatre department, Techies explores the ongoing rivalry between performers and backstage crew: the actors who crave the spotlight, and the technicians whose creativity, problem-solving, and sheer grit keep the show alive.
It’s a musical about theatre itself—its hierarchies, its chaos, and its magic.

Which makes it a perfect fit for the Edinburgh Fringe.

The Fringe is the ultimate backstage-meets-onstage festival.
Performers, technicians, producers, and audiences collide daily.
Every show exists because someone built it, lit it, fixed it, hustled it.

The musical playfully breaks the fourth wall, incorporating lighting, sound, and stage mechanics into the storytelling itself—blurring the line between performance and production. The result is a fast-paced, high-energy show that feels tailor-made for a festival where theatre is everywhere and nothing is hidden.

At Westside High, sophomore stage manager Joan dreams of becoming the first “techie” ever elected to lead the school’s theatre association. Her ambition puts her on a collision course with her best friend Veronica, a performer whose rising popularity – and social media presence – make her the obvious favorite.

As elections loom, friendships fracture, alliances shift, and the entire department is thrown into creative chaos. What unfolds is a hilarious and heartfelt look at power, belonging, and what it really means to be part of a team.

Behind the comedy sits a deeper truth: theatre doesn’t belong to one group. It belongs to everyone who builds it.
